About - Daan Jensen
I am eager to – through the process of creating artistic work - discover new outcomes for investigations of philosophical propositions within different contexts that are of current significance to the world. My relationship with the arts comes forth out of a pursuit of understanding, rooted in a motivation to make my audience - by means of both thought and feeling - gain a more mundane and/or meta understanding of oneself and surroundings. Plays of the subject-object relation are key here: clarification of a surrounding’s conditional potential and the personal reactions (and frankly any other kind of output) that resulted out of an influential /inspirational connection or interaction between the subject and object is what I would like to - at first metaphysically investigate and ground in both traditional and contemporary, philosophical foundations – and secondly bring the fabricated(/or: ‘discovered’) notions to people in ways that can connect in a more divers and personal, affective way than the predominantly intellectual connection that only text offers.

An ever-returning affinity for nature – and all prosperity it gives me - is what triggers my aspiration to bring my audience a connection to their own surroundings. A certain Art of Philosophy ‘is what I see best fit’ to create a public that can become (or either is already) a Scholar of the School of Life. This triggers an ambition to not ambiguate, but to clarify - for both my audience and myself in a play between suggestiveness and didactiveness.

Although I may be primarily educated as an artist, the most appropriate title I will want to give myself is being a writer in process - or even more so, simply a (creating) investigator. In terms of form or output, ‘an appropriate title’ might be visual proposition designer.

And so, all my works start with contemplation. Then, the output in writing comes in all kinds of forms (both in process and outcome); narratives, concepts, ideas in general (as in reflections, mini essays and maxims). Simultaneously, the writings take form visually by the use of installation, video, minimalistic imagery or painting. I can, so far, predominantly place the rhetoric of my works in continental philosophy and Taoism (as that is also what I am so far most familiar with).
Now the act of producing itself has led me to rest assuredly upon a trust for philosophical propositions being the perfect template for my works. As I believe all created content is
at the end of the day in some way an extraction from our lives, I see philosophy to be
the most comprehensible tool for me to warp aspects of life into works that I suppose are
to be of any significance for people. No matter the outcome or form or medium used,
all my works carry a shared standpoint of an (at first sight more than seemingly contradicting) assimilation of Immanence and Non-Dualism, Indefinite Monism, ‘Stoic Romanticism’ and ‘Existentialist-Taoism’…. A fair play between cynicism and dryer didactic manners is what I like to use for communicating the self-evident and self-deconstructing matters.
